Mumbai: Mumbai and its metropolitan regions are most likely to witness showers over the weekend.
After a break of two days, Mumbai is yet again expected to witness heavy rainfall at isolated places as the district is placed under Yellow Alert from June 22 to 24, while it's neighbouring Raigad district is placed under Orange Alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall for the same period. While, for its metropolitan regions, Thane and Palghar are placed under Yellow Alert from June 20 to 24.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted 'Widespread Rainfall' for Konkan region for June 20 to 24, which includes Mumbai and MMR. The regional forecast also says that there will be gradual rise in maximum temperature in the region in the next two to three days. Thereafter there will be no large change in the mercury.
As per local weather forecast, for the next 24 hours, the skies in Mumbai city and suburbs- will be generally cloudy with possibility of intermittent moderate rains. The maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be around 31 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, Mumbai has already recorded around 50% more rainfall so far this season compared to last year since the onset of monsoon. Until the morning of June 20, the Santacruz observatory has recorded 408.77 mm rainfall which last year was 171.01 mm. While the Colaba observatory till June 20 morning has recorded 474.8 mm rainfall which last year was 296.4 mm.
While, as per the BMC data, Mumbai has already recieved 17.26% of the average annual rainfall so far. Mumbai City has witnessed 411.68 mm rainfall, the eastern suburbs have received 365.85 mm and the western suburbs have received 365.16 mm rainfall so far.
Meanwhile, owing to gusty winds the city witnessed on Thursday, in the 24 hours (June 19, am to June 20, am), total 49 incidents of tree falls were reported, 11 incidents of short circuit and nine incidents of wall collapses were reported. No injuries were reported in these incidents.
