Mumbai: Air India announced the cancellation of its June 17 Mumbai-Lucknow flight because of "operational reasons" and the resulting impact from flight diversions on Wednesday. A spokesperson for Air India stated that other arrangements are being put in place to transport the passengers to their destination, Lucknow, as quickly as possible.
Air India flight AI2491 traveling from Mumbai to Lucknow on June 17 was called off because of "operational reasons." The airline indicated that the ripple effect of flight diversions due to heavy rainfall in Delhi played a role in the choice to cancel the flight.
AI2491 from Mumbai to Lucknow on 17 June 2025 was annulled because of operational factors and the domino effect of flights redirected amid the intense rainfall in Delhi. The late arrival of rerouted flights resulted in the operating crew reaching their regulatory flight duty time.
Additionally, the late arrival of redirected flights caused the operating crew to reach their regulatory flight duty time limits. The airline indicated that bad weather caused delays and disruptions, making it impossible to arrange a replacement crew right away.
It mentioned that the impacted passengers were given hotel lodging to reduce the inconvenience. It stated that they were also offered full refunds on cancellations or free rescheduling if they chose to do so.
Air India Flight Operations Suffer Turbulence
Air India Flight AI 159 was cancelled on June 17, 2025, due to a technical issue during takeoff from Ahmedabad to London, affecting passengers at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The DGCA convened a meeting with Air India officials following ongoing delays and cancellations attributed to technical glitches. On the same day, 16 Air India flights were cancelled, primarily involving Boeing 787 aircraft. Since a fatal crash of a Boeing 787 in Ahmedabad on June 12 that killed 241, a total of 83 flights on widebody aircraft have been cancelled, with enhanced inspections revealing no major safety concerns so far. Cancellations include flights to key international destinations and are exacerbated by restrictions on Iranian airspace and increased turnaround times. The DGCA has urged Air India to improve passenger support and internal coordination.
