Mumbai: Heavy rainfall and strong winds disrupted Mumbai’s local train services on Wednesday evening, causing delays and inconvenience for commuters. Train operations on the Up and Down slow lines between Churchgate and Marine Lines stations were halted around 4:25 PM, following weather-related obstructions.
Western Railway officials reported that a piece of cloth had entangled with the Overhead Equipment (OHE), creating a safety hazard and forcing authorities to stop trains on the affected tracks. In a separate incident, a tree branch fell onto the tracks at another nearby location, further complicating operations.
While slow line services have been impacted, fast trains are operating normally, providing some relief to commuters travelling during peak evening hours. Teams from the Railway Department were quickly deployed to attend to both problem areas and ensure safety measures were followed.
An update shared by Western Railway on X (formerly Twitter) confirmed the disruption and stated that railway staff are attending to the issue promptly, assuring that train operations on the affected section are expected to resume shortly.

Mumbai experienced an unexpected heavy rainfall in May, well ahead of the official monsoon season. Areas such as Nariman Point, Thane, and Navi Mumbai witnessed intense showers on Wednesday evening. Although the monsoon typically begins in June, the early downpour suggests it might arrive sooner this year.
Social media platforms were flooded with videos from residents capturing the sudden change in weather. Rainfall was reported across several parts of South Mumbai, including Marine Lines and the Gateway of India. Accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds, the showers created the impression that the monsoon had already set in.
