Mumbai: The Mumbai Police on Friday issued an order banning kite flying in and around INS Shikra and two nearby areas—Azad Nagar and Sundar Nagar in Navy Nagar—for a period of two months, from May 16 to July 14, 2025.
The decision follows a request from the Western Naval Command, which raised concerns that kite strings could pose a serious threat to aircraft operations at the naval air station. According to a report submitted by naval authorities, kite flying in these areas could disrupt landing and take-off operations, thereby compromising flight safety at INS Shikra.
After reviewing the report, the Mumbai Police implemented a temporary ban on kite flying in these sensitive zones. The police have also warned that anyone found obstructing or interfering with aircraft operations will face strict legal action. Citizens have been urged to immediately report any such incidents to the nearest police station.
Concerned authorities and local police stations have been informed and instructed to strictly enforce the ban during the stipulated period to ensure safe aircraft movement in the area.
