Mumbai: A 22-year-old man, Siddharth Bhansali, was apprehended on Sunday by the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) Police for allegedly making a threat call to the US Consulate, claiming he would carry out a bomb blast. Siddharth is son of a gold trader from Parel.

According to police officials at the BKC police station, Bhansali's parents hold American visas, but he does not. He had applied for visa, and after his application was rejected, he allegedly made the threatening call directly to the American Consulate.

Authorities said the call was made in Hindi to a consulate official, during which the caller threatened to bomb the premises before abruptly hanging up.

Police traced the call and took Bhansali into custody. After preliminary questioning, officers noted signs of emotional distress. “He appeared mentally disturbed and admitted he was upset over the visa denial, which led him to make the threat,” a police official said. Bhansali was later released after being issued a notice, and the investigation is ongoing.
