The police have detained a bogus doctor from a Shivaji Nagar-based hospital in Govandi for allegedly sexually molesting a female patient under the pretext of treatment.
On June 17, the woman went to the hospital with her husband and was asked to wait in a seclusion room. When she didn’t come out for a long time, her husband went to inquire with a doctor and allegedly found her semi-conscious with a man touching her inappropriately. When he yelled, the man tried to run away. He later claimed to be a doctor but turned out to be a hospital operator, the police said, identifying him as Shoaib.
The woman’s husband immediately approached the Shivaji Nagar police. A female sub-inspector arrived at the hospital and detained two Shoaib and another man named Irfan Sayyed.
The police found out that the hospital doesn’t have any license. The owner, Jameel Khan, who is on the run, has been booked under relevant sections of the Medical Practitioners Act and the Maharashtra Nursing Homes Registration Act.
Shoaib has been detained under section 354 (assault or criminal force with the intent to outrage a woman’s modesty), among others, under the Indian Penal Code. A manhunt has been launched to trace and nab Khan, while the police have also written to the civic body about taking action against the unauthorised hospital.
