Mumbai: An unidentified individual threw an acid-like substance on Ateeq Khan, 40, an auto-rickshaw driver, in Bandra West on August 4. The police are searching for the accused, and the reason behind the act remains uncertain. The Bandra police on Monday registered an FIR against the unidentified individual under Section 124 (1) (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by use of acid, etc) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
About The Incident
According to the FIR, the victim, Khan, resides in Shastri Nagar, Bandra West. On Monday at around 12:05 am, he was leaving his home with his brother, Nastin, to visit a medical store located on Hill Road in Bandra West to purchase medicines for their sister, Rukhsana, who was suffering from a headache.
At around 12:15 am, when they reached Qureshi Nagar, behind Bada Masjid in Bandra West, an unidentified individual threw an acid-like substance on Ateeq Khan. The motive behind the attack is still unknown. Due to the hot liquid, Khan’s skin began to itch, and he sustained serious injuries to his back, behind his right ear, and above his left eye. He immediately removed his shirt, which had also shrunk due to the acid like substance.

Khan and his brother tried to search for the accused but were unable to find him.
After the incident, both brothers returned home. Khan’s wife dialled 100, and the police promptly arrived at the scene. Khan was taken to Bhabha Hospital in Bandra West.
After receiving treatment, Khan went to the Bandra police station and filed a complaint. Following this, the Bandra police registered a case.
Hina Khan, the victim’s wife, stated, “We do not have any dispute with anyone. However, in the area where we live, several illegal Bangladeshi people are living. Many of them have a criminal background. We do not suspect anyone in particular. The police are investigating the matter.”
A police officer confirmed that the search for the accused is underway.
