Medical Miracle: Mauritius Teen Avoids Leg Amputation With Advanced Regenerative Therapy In Navi Mumbai

“When Ashfaaq arrived, his foot was destroyed, with shattered bones and severe tissue loss. Through consistent regenerative treatment, we avoided amputation and restored his ability to walk,” said Dr. Mahajan, adding that untreated crush injuries can lead to gangrene, permanent disability, or life-threatening complications like crush syndrome.

A student from Mauritius who was on the verge of losing his right leg after a devastating road accident has regained full mobility without amputation, after opting advanced regenerative therapy at StemRx Hospital and Research Centre in Navi Mumbai.

Initial Treatment in Mauritius Offered Little Hope

Nineteen-year-old Sookrah Ashfaaq suffered a severe crush injury in March 2025 when the motorbike he was riding pillion on was hit by another vehicle, trapping his foot between two vehicles. Despite wearing a helmet and other safety gear, he sustained multiple fractures, dislocated joints, and massive soft tissue damage. Initial treatment in Mauritius stabilised his foot, but doctors warned that tissue death was likely and a below-knee amputation almost certain.

Referral to Navi Mumbai for Specialised Care

Ashfaaq contacted StemRx Mauritius and was referred to their Navi Mumbai centre. Under the leadership of Dr. Pradeep Mahajan, Regenerative Medicine Researcher & Founder of StemRx, a four-month non-surgical protocol was designed. It combined regenerative therapies, repeated wound care, infection control, skin and bone grafts, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), and MDI therapy — a treatment that accelerates tissue and bone healing, improves blood circulation, reduces inflammation, and aids nerve recovery.

From ‘Destroyed Foot’ to Full Mobility

“When Ashfaaq arrived, his foot was destroyed, with shattered bones and severe tissue loss. Through consistent regenerative treatment, we avoided amputation and restored his ability to walk,” said Dr. Mahajan, adding that untreated crush injuries can lead to gangrene, permanent disability, or life-threatening complications like crush syndrome.

Patient Grateful for Second Chance

By July 2025, Ashfaaq’s wounds had healed, bones realigned, and tissues regenerated. He now walks without any support, climbs stairs, and has returned to Mauritius on his feet.

“When doctors told me I might lose my leg, I felt my world collapse,” Ashfaaq said adding, "I have now got back my strength, dignity, and hope. This truly feels like a miracle.”
