The state government has decided to use AI technology for the Nashik Kumbh Mela to be held in the year 2027. To facilitate the usage of the digital technology, the government has appointed a 7-member panel to set up a security mechanism and communication network during the religious congregation that attracts lakhs of devotees.
The state initiative may have overtones of the incidents that happened during the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela this year.
The state panel will be headed by the Director, Information Technology, Managing Director of the Maharashtra Information Technology Corporation, Deputy Secretary of the Tourism Department, Members from the Directorate of Information Technology, representative of the Divisional Commissioner of Nashik Division and Desk Officer (Technical) from the Information Technology Department, Mantralaya as its member secretary.

The committee has been asked to submit a report on the usage of technological support for crowd management and traffic. It has also been asked to plan exhibitions using digital, audio-visual, interactive and AR/VR technology for the devotees. The committee will contact telecom firms for seamless mobile connectivity during the Kumbh Mela.
