Mumbai: The government has decided to extend till June 30 the term of the High Court Justice (Retd) Sandeep Shinde Committee, appointed by the Ekanth Shinde-led regime in September 2023.
About The Decision
The decision comes 43 days after its expiry, on December 31, 2024. The panel was appointed following the agitation by Maratha activist Manoj Jarange-Patil. It was tasked with scrutinising proofs submitted by Marathas for Kunbi certificates.

The committee was also verifying the records of the Hyderabad Gazette, Satara Gazette, and the Bombay Gazette, which have mentions of Kunbis. Initially appointed for the region of Marathwada, the scope of the panel was extended to cover the entire state.
The extension comes at a time when it was speculated that the new government may not decide on it. In the meantime, a decision came to shift the office of the committee from Mantralaya to accommodate the Cabinet members.
