Mumbai: The government of Maharashtra has released updated Covid-19 management protocols, mandating healthcare institutions to test 5% of patients with influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infection (SARI). This directive targets all municipal corporations, zilla parishads, and district administrations.
As of June 5, India recorded 4866 active Covid-19 cases, mainly concentrated in six states, with Maharashtra having 526 active cases. The circulating Omicron variants produce mild symptoms. A comprehensive evaluation of hospital readiness is required, concentrating on testing and critical supplies. Surveillance teams need to track SARI/ILI trends, and hygiene practices in the community should be encouraged, particularly for at-risk populations.
Maharashtra has 526 active COVID-19 cases, 521 recovered, and 17 fatalities. The recent deaths include a 76-year-old male with a history of CABG, ILD, AVR, and AKI; a 76-year-old male with atypical viral pneumonia, Covid-19 positive, acute coronary syndrome, carcinogenic shock, and a history of buccal mucosa carcinoma with lung metastasis; and a 79-year-old female experiencing septic shock with multi-organ dysfunction, Covid-19, ARDS, CVA, diabetes, hypertension, CKD, and polymyositis.
India's active Covid-19 cases have risen to 4,866, with 564 new cases and 7 deaths reported in the last 24 hours. Three deaths occurred in Maharashtra, and two each in Delhi and Karnataka, predominantly among the elderly with pre-existing health conditions. One death involved a five-month-old child. The uptick in cases is attributed to new variants like LF.7, XFG, JN.1, and the NB.1.8.1 subvariant, marking a rise from 257 active cases on May 22 to over 4,000.
Kerala remains the hardest-hit state, followed by Delhi, West Bengal, and Maharashtra. Statewise data shows Kerala with the highest active cases at 1,487, followed by Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi, and others, with varying numbers of new cases and daily deaths. The central government has issued advisories to ensure the availability of medical supplies, while health experts stress the need to distinguish Covid-19 from other viral infections. Vulnerable populations are advised to stay cautious, seek medical care if symptoms worsen, and continue preventive measures like mask-wearing and hand hygiene to mitigate the spread of the virus.
