Mumbai: In a major breakthrough, Zeeshan Akhtar alias Jassi Purewal, the alleged mastermind behind the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, has reportedly been arrested by the Surrey Police in Canada. However, it remains unclear which specific case led to his arrest. A senior officer from the Mumbai Crime Branch stated that no official confirmation has been received yet from their end, and they are currently seeking details from central agencies.

Baba Siddique was shot dead outside his son Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Mumbai on the night of October 12, 2024. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang had claimed responsibility for the killing, stating that Siddique was targeted due to his close ties with Bollywood actor Salman Khan.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the murder was orchestrated by Zeeshan Akhtar, a native of Jalandhar, who was present at the crime scene when the shooting occurred. Akhtar fled India shortly after the murder, allegedly with the help of Pakistani underworld figure Shehzad Bhatti, a key member of the Farooq Khokhar gang.

In a surprising turn, the Lawrence gang later disowned Akhtar, distancing themselves from him and even threatening to eliminate him. Following his escape, Zeeshan Akhtar released a video at the beginning of 2025, admitting to being wanted in connection with the murder of Baba Siddique and other criminal cases in India. In the video, Akhtar credited Shehzad Bhatti for aiding him, referring to him as a "big brother."

Earlier, Bhatti himself had released a video, calling Lawrence Bishnoi his “brother” and revealing his involvement in helping Zeeshan flee India after Siddique’s assassination.
