Ganeshotsav 2025: Thane Municipal Corporation Launches ‘My Home, My Ganesha’ Workshops To Promote Eco-Friendly Idols

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has launched an eco-conscious initiative titled ‘My Home, My Ganesha’ ahead of the upcoming Ganesh festival. As part of the campaign, workshops are being organized across city to teach citizens how to make Ganesh idols using Shadu clay, a natural and eco-friendly material.

Thane: The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has launched an eco-conscious initiative titled ‘My Home, My Ganesha’ ahead of the upcoming Ganesh festival. As part of the campaign, workshops are being organized across city to teach citizens how to make Ganesh idols using Shadu clay, a natural and eco-friendly material.

TMC Hosts Eco-Friendly Idol-Making Workshops Using Shadu Clay

According to officials, the initiative is being implemented with the support of the Environment Vigilance Board and various social organizations. Citizens are required to register in advance to participate in the workshops.

Over 100 citizens have already created Shadu clay Ganesh idols at the Green Shop office of the Environment Vigilance Board, located at Dadoji Konddev Stadium.

Manisha Pradhan, Chief Environment Officer of TMC, said the number and locations of the workshops are being expanded to accommodate more participants.

Free Materials and Space Allotted to Registered Idol Makers

According to civic officials, to further promote the use of eco-friendly materials, they allotted free space to four idol makers for Ganeshotsav and supplied 25 tons of Shadu clay free of cost to 17 registered idol makers.

Workshops will also be conducted regularly at Upvan Lake Amphitheater and Shiv Shahu Phule Ambedkar Smriti Sabha on Pokhran Road No. 2.

Multiple Workshop Locations Across Thane Till August 17

According to civic official, there were three location where the workshop schedule is as follows belows.

1. Daily workshops at Dadoji Konddev Stadium, Gala No. 15 — till August 17.

2. Weekends only at Upvan Talav Amphitheater — till August 17

3. Special dates: August 2 and 3 at Shiv Shahu Phule Ambedkar Smriti Sabha (near Bethany Hospital, Pokhran Road)

TMC officials stated that if the citizens want to register, they may contact the Environment Vigilance Board at the given mobile number 9920772869, and the participation workshop is free of cost.

Over 3,000 Students Reached Under TMC’s Environmental School Initiative

Under its Environmental School Initiative, the TMC has already demonstrated eco-friendly idol-making to over 3,000 school students across schools in the Thane. The program also focuses on raising awareness about celebrating festivals in an environmentally sustainable manner.

Schools from Thane city, Daighar, Khardi, Diva, Mumbra, Balkum, Manpada, and Ovala have actively participated.
