Gear up for the August long weekend! Independence Day and Janmashtami warrant some downtime from August 15 to 17.
Whether you plan to relax and take the days as they come or engage in activities with your loved ones, this list is sure to give you some ideas on how you can make the most of the long weekend.
Act of Republic: An Exhibition by Naresh Kumar
'Neither freedom nor belonging is straightforward. One cannot exist entirely without risking the other.' This thought lays a broad groundwork for artist Naresh Kumar's work, whose constant migration inspired his art.
If you're after an easy-going, visual arts weekend, Kumar's exhibit, ‘Act of Republic,' at Chemould Prescott Road is the place to visit. It explores the idea of creating a space, whatever shape or form, in a restricting environment to find ourselves. This freedom, whether limited or hard-won, matters.
'Act of Republic' identifies two simultaneous conditions: the one we get, and the one we make. In doing so, the exhibition looks at the journey of his personal relationship with Mumbai — a city he has left and returned to five times — within the frameworks of nation, culture and family.
