Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A 17-year-old first-year B.Tech student was found hanging in his hostel room on the IIT-Indore campus on Friday evening. His friends, who met him barely 30 minutes ago, were shocked to see his hanging body after they returned from the mess.

He left a suicide note that mentioned his addiction to online betting games as the reason behind the extreme step.

The deceased, identified as Rohit Kumar, was a native resident of Telangana and had moved to Indore for studies.

He was pursuing a B.Tech from IIT Indore. Police sent his body for a postmortem and searched the entire room. A passbook, ID card, and the victim's phone have been seized.

According to his friends, he had lost lakhs of rupees in online betting that were sent to him by his parents as college fees. He left the suicide note on his mobile phone expressing his inability to get over the e-betting games.

It read, "I am addicted to online betting games. Goodbye."

According to information, victim Rohit Kumar was a resident of Telangana. Kumar had moved to Indore to pursue his B.Tech at IIT Indore. He arrived here in July during the orientation program of the university. On Friday night, Kumar and a couple of his friends were sitting in his hostel room. They all planned to go to the mess for dinner, however, Kumar refused, saying he will join them later. To their shock, when the friends returned from the dinner, they found Kumar hanging, using a nylon string to make a noose.

Scared, the students shouted for help and called the hostel warden. The warden then informed the police, who came to the spot with a team of forensic officers. The victim's body was sent for post mortem. The reason for this extreme step is said to be the victim's addiction to online betting games and gambling.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
