Piplia Mandi (Madhya Pradesh): A protest erupted in Mindlakheda village after a lineman helper died from an electric shock while repairing a power line on Wednesday.
Villagers accused the local power distribution company of murder, claiming that the power was deliberately turned on while Dashrath, 40, was working on the pole. His body was found hanging from the pole, with severe burns on his face.
Farmer leader Shyamlal Jokchand arrived at the scene and criticised the company's negligence, noting that similar incidents had occurred earlier. The villagers demanded action against those responsible and expressed their anger when company officials took two hours to arrive.
After a five-hour standoff, the villagers agreed to end the protest following written assurances of financial support for Dashrath's family and a job for his son.
The electricity department promised seven lakh rupees in aid and SDM Ravindra Parmar mentioned sending a proposal for an additional Rs 10 lakh to the government.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident. Chowki in-charge Dharmesh Yadav stated they would take appropriate action based on the findings of the electricity department’s report. The body was handed over to the family after a postmortem.
