Khetia (Madhya Pradesh): A 9th grader died after suffering a heart attack at a school hostel in Gujarat. Megh Shah, a 13-year-old student from Khetia was studying at Tapovan Ashramshala in Navsari district of Gujarat.
The incident happened on May 24 at 1 am when Megh complained of severe chest pain to hostel assistant Harshad Rathwa. Instead of taking him to a hospital right away, the assistant tried to comfort the boy by holding him on his lap throughout the night. Megh kept crying in pain for seven hours.
The student was finally taken to a private hospital at 8 am, but it was too late. He died on the way to the hospital because he did not get proper medical care in time.
CCTV footage shows what happened that night. Megh's family has asked police to take action against those responsible. Navsari rural police have started investigating the case as an accidental death based on the doctor's first report.
The ashram management suspended Harshad Rathwa for being careless. Institute manager Gangadhar Pandey said the assistant only gave the boy ointment and acidity medicine instead of getting proper help.
Tapovan Ashramshala has been running for 35 years and has 322 students. Megh had come back from his home just four days earlier for extra classes during holidays. His family says he was completely healthy when he left home.
