Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A professor of an Ayurvedic college was duped of Rs 1.32 lakh by a cyber-fraudster after getting remote access to his mobile through pop-up message, an official said on Thursday.

The conman posed as a bank executive and under the pretext of cancelling annual charges of his credit card made him click on the pop-up message while opening the bank portal.

According to the additional DCP (zone-1) Alok Kumar Sharma, one Narayan Chandra Mishra, a resident of Bijalpur, lodged a complaint at Rajendra Nagar police station’s cyber desk stating that he is a professor at Government Autonomous Ashtang Ayurved College and he received a call from unknown number where the caller told him that there would be an annual charge on his credit card, and if he wants to cancel it, he could do through the bank portal without giving any personal credential and he would guide him, how to cancel it.

The victim was opening the portal when a pop-up message generated on his mobile phone and the fraudster asked him to click on it. As he clicked, the conman got remote access to his mobile phone. Later, he got two OTPs and Rs 1,31,970 were deducted from his account.

The police registered his complaint and during investigation it came to light that the fraudster had bought an air conditioner through an online shopping portal. The accused is believed to have connection with the gang operating in Bihar-Jharkhand belt.
