Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In a celebration of unity and gratitude, mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav marked the festival of Raksha Bandhan with the city’s sanitation workers and members of women-led self-help groups at a special event organised by Indore Municipal Corporation at Vishram Bagh.
The occasion was celebrated with music, sweets and heartfelt interactions, symbolising brotherhood, service and gratitude.
Joining the mayor at the event were Mayor-in-Council member Manish Sharma, corporator Yogesh Gender and Kanchan Gidwani, who shared in the festive spirit.
In his address, Bhargav said, “This festival is not just about the bond between brothers and sisters. It is also a symbol of protection, service and sacrifice. Our sanitation sisters and self-help group women are not only keeping our city clean but are also enriching our festivals by crafting beautiful handmade rakhis.”
Rakhis made by the self-help groups were purchased by the municipal corporation and presented as gifts to the sanitation workers. Bhargav assured that in the coming years, these groups would continue to supply rakhis for the city's sanitation staff, supporting both livelihood and tradition.
The mayor also drew a parallel between Raksha Bandhan and Independence Day, noting, “Just as a sister ties a rakhi for her brother's protection, our brave soldiers pledge to protect our nation at the borders. This festival is a reflection of our commitment to family, society and the nation.”
Following the event, a Tiranga Yatra was held with sanitation workers and self-help group women, blending the themes of patriotism and community pride.
