Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The long-pending removal of Indore’s problematic BRTS corridor on AB Road has gained new momentum. The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), after failing twice to attract contractors, has revised the tender conditions based on suggestions received during pre-bid meetings.
The original tender demanded Rs 3.68 crore upfront, deterring firms from applying. In a significant change, IMC will now accept the amount in five instalments, easing the burden on contractors.
This move is part of a comprehensive plan to dismantle the 11-kilometer-long BRTS corridor in five phases. The corridor, from Niranjanpur to Rajiv Gandhi Square, was once used by 55,000 daily commuters.
Ever since sections have being closed due to flyover constructions and safety concerns traffic congestion has worsened, with regular vehicles and i-Bus services now sharing the same lanes.
Alongside the BRTS dismantling, road and divider construction will be undertaken simultaneously. IMC has already approved Rs 17 crore for this development. The dismantling will also involve removal of 18 bus shelters and nearly 1.5 lakh kg of metal scrap.
Public work in-charge Rajendra Rathore confirmed that the new tender retains the Rs 3.68 crore valuation but offers instalment-based payments. This update is expected to attract suitable contractor firms to finally begin work on a project that has become a civic inconvenience.
With tender terms now more flexible, IMC is hopeful that the third attempt will be successful and the BRTS corridor will soon be history.
