Khandwa (Madhya Pradesh): Two brothers from Indore drowned on Wednesday evening at the confluence of the Narmada and Kaveri rivers in Omkareshwar.
They drowned while bathing during a birthday outing.
The deceased, 18-year-old Vicky and his 20-year-old brother Lucky, were fruit vendors from Chandan Nagar, Indore. They had come with six friends to celebrate a friend’s birthday and decided to bathe in the river after the celebration.

According to police, Vicky entered the water first but was caught in the strong wave of the Narmada. As he was not trained enough to swim, he started drowning. In an attempt to save him, his elder brother Lucky jumped in. He too did not know how to swim. Both were quickly swept away by the powerful river flow.

Despite being alerted, local divers and rescue teams faced significant challenges due to the heavy inflow from the Omkareshwar Dam. ASI confirmed that the search operation is ongoing but was delayed due to strong winds and stormy water. Rescue efforts are now being done where the bodies are suspected to have drifted.

The incident has left the family and friends in deep shock and grief. The victims’ relatives rushed to Omkareshwar the same night upon hearing the news. The emotional scenes at the riverbank shows the gravity of the loss as the public hopes for the recovery of the bodies.
