Kolkata: Row erupts after Trinamool Congress (TMC) heavyweight Anubrata Mondal’s call to cops using unparliamentary words went viral.
In the audio clip that went viral, Mondal was also heard threatening Liton Haldar, IC of Bolpur police station.
Superintendent of Police of Birbhum district, Amandeep confirmed that a case has been filed under Section 222 (threatening a public servant), 132 (assault or criminal force used against a public servant), 75 (sexual harassment), and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the BNS against the former TMC Birbhum district president after the Inspector-in-charge of Bolpur police station, Liton Halder, filed a written complaint alleging that a local leader threatened him over the phone.
Notably, TMC asks Mondal to apologize following which Mondal had tendered an unconditional apology and also sent the letter to TMC leader Subrata Bakshi.
“I eat a lot of medicine so I don’t remember what I said. However, I am apologizing for hurting others' sentiments,” said Mondal.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president and MoS Sukanta Majumdar said, “Indulging in the politics of appeasement, the state's failed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee publicly insulted Hindu women across the country yesterday with vermilion. Shortly after that, her most beloved 'Keshta' — Birbhum leader Anubrata Mondal — insulted the mother and sister of a policeman in obscene language. This clearly shows how the Trinamool Congress actually views women! The people's attention cannot be diverted by the drama of issuing a public notice to cover up such misdeeds of the respected leader. The person who has insulted the mothers and sisters of Bengal - Anubrata Mandal must be arrested by the police immediately within 24 hours!”
Incidentally, Mondal was in jail after both CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested him for his alleged involvement in cattle smuggling. However, he got bail and came out of Tihar jail last year.
