Bulandshahr: Despite official claims of round the clock electricity supply in Uttar Pradesh, ground reports indicate severe and prolonged power outages across multiple districts. In a notable development, BJP MLA from Sikandrabad, Laxmiraj Singh, has written to the Principal Secretary of the Energy Department alleging that several areas, including Sikandrabad, Gulaothi, and Kakod, have had no electricity for 15 days. The MLA cited halted irrigation due to non functional tubewells and unresponsive power officials.
Meanwhile, SP MLA Atul Pradhan staged a protest on Monday in Sardhana, accusing the Western Power Corporation of mismanagement. In Ayodhya, residents faced a 21 hour blackout on Sunday, adding to growing public dissatisfaction.
Cloudy skies over the past two days have reportedly reduced demand to 26,000–27,000 MW. Still, the Energy Department continues to claim sufficient supply: 18 hours in rural areas, over 21 hours at tehsil HQs, and 24 hours in district centers. Officials maintain that faulty transformers are replaced within 24 hours.
However, opposition leaders say these claims are unsubstantiated.
Congress UP chief Ajay Rai said electricity is available for only 3-4 hours in eastern districts, affecting small farmers. “While crops wilt, the Energy Minister remains silent,” Rai remarked.
Former CM Akhilesh Yadav blamed the current administration for failing to set up new power plants or upgrade transmission infrastructure, calling the ongoing outages a direct consequence of policy stagnation.
