Kolkata: A security guard Pinaki Bandhopadhyay, of the South Kolkata Law College on Saturday got arrested.
After following the CCTV footage, it was learnt that the security guard was on duty then and despite knowing that a girl was being molested didn’t do anything for her rescue.
Question arises: why did the security guard not react? Was he equally involved in the crime or was he afraid of former Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) leader Monojit Mishra?
Meanwhile, police found the video which was shot to blackmail the victim from one of the accused’s mobile phones as the victim had said while her statement was recorded.

On the other hand, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national state president and Union Health Minister JP Nadda made a four members committee including former Union Ministers Satpal Singh and Meenakashi Lekhi, along with MPs Biplab Deb and Manan Mishra. The team is expected to visit the crime scene and submit a detailed report to JP Nadda.
Politics started after the announcement of the team was made.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh said that the accused have already been arrested.
“Why is the central team visiting now? The accused are already arrested. No one from TMC has supported such a crime. Actually, they are visiting West Bengal to pay homage to Jagannath temple in Digha,” added Ghosh.
BJP Legislator Agnimitra Paul said, “We don’t want a CBI probe. We are always told that the state police are efficient. The state police should investigate and punish the culprits.”
Notably, more CCTVs are being installed in the college campus in presence of the police. The footage of already installed cameras had proven some claims of the victims.
Incidentally, the oppositions protested over the incident across the state.
