Kolkata: Within a year of RG Kar rape and murder incident, another incident of alleged gang rape took place in South Kolkata Law college on Wednesday.
On Thursday evening after getting complaints from the victim and her family, police of Kasba police station had arrested three accused.
Amongst the three accused, one Monojit Mishra is a former student of the same college and former president of Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP).
According to sources, the victim went to the college to fill a form for the examination when Mishra asked her to wait in the union room.
It was learnt that she was first reportedly molested in the union room and then was taken to the guard’s room where Mishra along with two present students of the college had allegedly gang-raped her.
The sources also mentioned that the victim was shown a few videos and was asked to keep her mouth shut or else the videos will be shared on social media.
The law student was allegedly raped and was kept detained from 7.30 pm to 10.50 pm inside the college.
The social media account of Monojit Mishra revealed that he is currently working as a criminal lawyer in the Alipore court and the vice principal of the college Naina Chhatopadhyay said that Mishra was also a temporary staff of the college.
“I was not aware of the incident. I found out about it on Friday morning. I will inform others and strict action will be taken if the accused are found guilty,” said Naina.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) minister Shashi Panja said that the central government should immediately make a law based on the ‘Aparajita Bill’ passed by the West Bengal government in the state Assembly.

“TMC and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee don't support such crimes. It has become a social menace. The central government should urge President Droupadi Murmu to sanction the bill into a law. The criminals should be taught a lesson and everyone should learn how to respect a woman and her body. TMC is beside the family of the affected student,” said Panja.
Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari however once again demanded resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
“Mamata Banerjee will give several excuses to hide the crime. BJP has taken cognizance of the incident and we will not leave,” added Adhikari.
Aniket Mahata, a protesting RG Kar student said that even after their protest after junior medic’s rape and murder inside the hospital could not bring ‘safety’.
Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women (NCW) had sought a report from the Kolkata Commissioner of Police within three days.
On the other hand, a forensic team was seen entering the Kasba police station and till the time of reporting the investigation is going on.
Traffic came to a halt near Kasba area after BJP, SFI-DYFI and Congress protested over the incident outside the police station. Scuffles were seen with political leaders and police in order to clear the crowd.
