Uttar Pradesh: In a sweeping crackdown on food adulteration, the Uttar Pradesh Food Safety and Drug Administration busted two major rackets involving fake paneer and counterfeit bottled water in separate raids across Gorakhpur and Gautam Buddha Nagar.

Over 2,500 kg of adulterated paneer, 800 litres of contaminated milk, and 13,076 litres of fake packaged water have been seized and destroyed. A video released by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) shows visuals of the seized items, underscoring the growing concern over food safety violations.

Fake Paneer Factory Busted in Gorakhpur

On May 26, following intelligence inputs, the food safety team raided a paneer manufacturing unit in Gorakhpur. According to an FSSAI post on X (formerly Twitter), authorities destroyed 2,500 kg of adulterated paneer and 800 litres of milk found to be unfit for consumption. Ten samples from the site have been sent for testing.

During the raid, officials also discovered harmful substances like synthetic colours and saccharin, an artificial sweetener banned in such use. “Food Safety Team in UP busts fake paneer racket!... Samples under testing; harmful substances... seized,” FSSAI wrote in their official update. An investigation has been launched to track the origin and distribution network of the adulterated dairy products.

Counterfeit Bottled Water Units Sealed in Noida

In a related operation, the UP Food Safety Administration uncovered a racket involving counterfeit bottled water in Gautam Buddha Nagar. Two unlicensed manufacturing units were found producing packaged water under misleading labels like ‘Bilseri’ and ‘Blesri,’ mimicking the well-known brand ‘Bisleri.’

A total of 13,076 litres of fake bottled water were seized, and both plants were sealed. The water samples are currently being examined in laboratories. FSSAI shared a video showing stacks of seized bottles, captioning it, “13,076 litres of water seized, two plants sealed.”
