Chandigarh: Claiming that the vigilance bureau (VB) raids on the properties of the realtor and Punjab BJP leader Ranjit Gill on Saturday were in furtherance of ongoing probe into disproportionate assets (DA) case against Akali leader Bikram Majithia, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government said that several incriminating documents have been seized in the raids.

An official spokesperson said that during the searches, the VB has uncovered details of suspicious financial transactions running into crores between Gill’s real estate company - Gillco Developers - and entities linked with Majithia.

The spokesperson added that during the probe certain suspicious financial links and transactions between Gillco Developers and some of the entities had come to notice and that searches were conducted to gather relevant evidence.

Several incriminating documents, electronic devices and other evidence have been seized in the ongoing searches, he added.

. The spokesperson informed that the search operations were conducted strictly in accordance with the legal procedures and the search was still underway. "Electronic devices and relevant documents were also seized during the above searches", he added.

STOP POLITICAL VENDETTA: JAKHAR

Meanwhile, Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar on Sunday termed VB action against Gill, who had joined the BJP on Friday evening, a blatant act of political vengeance.

He demanded that chief minister Bhagwant Mann investigate corruption allegations against his minister, Sanjiv Arora, for alleged misconduct as a land developer.

Addressing newspersons Jakhar accused Mann of outsourcing Punjab’s governance to Delhi leaders, warning that when governments change, it’s the chief minister and ministers who face consequences for looting public funds, while contractors escape unscathed.

Jakhar labelled the action against Gill a violation of democratic norms, suggesting the government is intimidating opponents to deter them from joining rival parties or deviating from its agenda.
