Jamnagar: Vantara, the animal rescue, care, and rehabilitation initiative run by the Reliance Foundation, has responded to the ongoing controversy surrounding the relocation of a 36-year-old female elephant, Mahadevi (also referred to as Madhuri), from the Swastishri Jinsen Bhattarak Pattacharya Mutt in Kolhapur to Vantara’s Radhe Krishna Temple Elephant Welfare Trust in Jamnagar.

In a statement shared on Instagram, Vantara said: “Vantara holds the deepest respect for the emotions and spiritual sentiments surrounding the revered elephant Mahadevi Madhuri, who was recently relocated from the Jain Mutt Swastishree Jinsen Bhattarak Pattacharya Mahaswami Sansthan, Kolhapur.”

The statement continued: “We recognise that her presence there was more than symbolic — it was sacred to many. We want to clearly and respectfully state that Vantara acted solely in compliance with the binding orders of the Honourable Bombay High Court, which were subsequently upheld by the Honourable Supreme Court of India.”

Vantara further clarified that it was not the initiator of the relocation, but the designated facility instructed to execute the court's decision.“We were not the initiators of this move, but the facility directed to carry out the court's decision and provide her with care."

“Our only intention has been to act in the best interest of Madhuri’s health and long-term welfare. Her transition into our care was carried out with love, responsibility, and complete adherence to both legal and welfare standards.”

The organisation also confirmed that it had opened a dialogue with the Jain Mutt in the spirit of finding a peaceful resolution.

“We fully understand and empathise with the public’s strong emotional response. That is why, in a spirit of compassion and unity, we have opened a direct dialogue with the Jain Mutt and the respected Swamiji.”

“Together, we are exploring, through legal and veterinary guidance, all possibilities for Madhuri’s future including a peaceful resolution that prioritises both her wellbeing and the feelings of the community.”

Concluding the statement, Vantara emphasised its commitment to neutrality, compassion, and lawful conduct.“Vantara exists not in opposition to any faith, region, or tradition, but in service of voiceless beings who rely on human kindness. We remain committed to transparency, legality, and above all, compassion. We invite the public to stand with us not in conflict, but in care for Madhuri and every animal who deserves a life of dignity and peace.”
