Uttarkashi, August 05: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed his condolences to the people affected by the tragedy which occurred in Uttarkashi's Dharali today. A landslide occurred near Dharali village due to the cloudburst in the region. PM Modi said that he has spoken to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to an update on the situation.
As per initial reports, four people have lost their lives and several people have suffered serious injuries in the incident. Chilling visuals of the disaster have surfaced on social media.
PM Modi also assured that relief and rescue operations are being carried out under the supervision of the state government and that no effort is being spared to help the victims.

PM Modi tweeted and said, "I express my condolences to the people affected by this tragedy in Dharali, Uttarkashi. Along with this, I pray for the well-being of all the victims. I have spoken to Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami ji and obtained information about the situation. Under the supervision of the state government, relief and rescue teams are engaged in every possible effort. No stone is being left unturned in providing assistance to the people."
Details About The Tragic Incident
As per reports, a landslide occurred near Dharali village, about 4 km from the Indian Army Camp at Harshil, around 1:45 PM today following a cloudburst in the region. Responding swiftly, the Indian Army deployed 150 personnel, who reached the site within 10 minutes and immediately began rescue operations.
Rescue Operations Underway
So far, 15β20 people have been successfully evacuated and the injured are receiving treatment at the Armyβs medical facility in Harshil. Search and rescue operations are ongoing to locate and evacuate any stranded individuals.
Situation Being Monitored
The cloudburst caused a sudden surge of water in the area, damaging several restaurants and hotels. District Magistrate Prashant Arya told ANI that four people have lost their lives. Senior officials, including the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister and the Garhwal Division Commissioner, are monitoring the situation from the State Disaster Operations Centre in Dehradun.
Another Cloudburst At Sukhi
Debris from the landslide has also blocked the Badrinath National Highway (NH-58) near Paagalnala and Bhanerpani and efforts are underway to clear the road. Meanwhile, another cloudburst was reported at Sukhi Top near Dharali, and rescue teams remain on high alert.
