Kolkata: Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari’s convoy attacked in North Bengal’s Cooch Behar’s Khagrabari area.
While Adhikari and was going to Cooch Behar district police superintendent to submit a deputation on the reports of attacks on party leaders in the recent past, some men were seen pelting stones and showing him black flags and also chanted ‘chor, chor’ slogan.
Talking to the media, Adhikari said that the attack was planned to ‘kill him’.
“My bullet proof car has saved me. There were several anti-socials. We had this information and forewarned the party leaders. The police didn’t help us. The bulletproof glass also got broken. It is a plan of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Udayan Guha and SP. I had also spoken with the Assam Chief Minister and I assure that no illegal voter’s name will be there on the voter’s list” said Adhikari.
However, till the time of reporting it is not clear about anyone getting injured in this attack.
Meanwhile, TMC refuted the claims of the saffron camp and said that the attack was due to ‘factional feud within BJP’.
On the other hand, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee slammed the Assam government after another resident of Cooch Behar got NRC notice.
“How is the Assam government issuing such notices? Bengali workers are being killed in Maharashtra. They are being tortured in several other states like Delhi and Haryana. How dare they say there is no language called Bengali! This will never be tolerated. It is our oath to protect our mother tongue,” said Mamata.
