Uttar Pradesh’s basic education department will launch a campaign across all government primary schools on June 5, urging students to plant a tree in their mother’s name to mark World Environment Day. Acting on the directives of the Union Ministry of Education, the department has issued comprehensive guidelines to ensure mass participation.
Director General of School Education Kanchan Verma has instructed all Basic Shiksha Adhikaris (BSAs) to implement the drive under the Eco Club for Mission LiFE. Each school has been directed to plant at least 70 saplings on the day. The initiative will also be integrated into the ongoing summer camps at schools, where tree plantation will be taken up on a large scale. Additionally, the campaign's message will be amplified on social media platforms to increase awareness.

Local municipal bodies will be involved for plantation activities in urban areas, while gram panchayats and MGNREGA teams will assist in rural regions.
The campaign will extend until September 30, covering schools, open lands, heritage spots, pilgrimage sites, and green belts.
