Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Sunday slammed Delhi Police’s letter seeking translation help for “Bangladeshi language” while investigating illegal Bangladeshi migrants.

TMC minister Shashi Panja said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) should ‘apologize’.

“BJP doesn’t like Bengalis and the language. This is a clear insult to Bengali culture and the language. Just because someone speaks in Bengali doesn’t mean that person is Bangladeshi,” said Panja.

Notably, TMC also held ‘Bhasha Andolan’ at Mayo road in Kolkata near Gandhi’s statue.

TMC national secretary Abhishek Banerjee posting the purported letter of Delhi police at X said that such a statement is written to ‘defame Bengal’.

“For months now, Bengali-speaking people have been targeted, harassed and detained across BJP-ruled states. Now, in a shocking escalation, @DelhiPolice has officially referred to Bangla, as a “Bangladeshi language”. There is no language called Bangladeshi. To call Bangla a foreign language is not just an insult- It’s an attack on our identity, culture and belonging. Bengalis are not outsiders in their own homeland,” wrote the TMC national secretary.

However, FPJ didn’t verify the purported letter of Delhi police as stated by TMC.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari says ‘Khela Hobe in voter’s list’.

“Bihar like SIR will be done in Bengal and crores of illegal voter’s names will be deleted,” said Adhikari.

Standing by Delhi police, former BJP state president and former MP Dilip Ghosh said, “Delhi police didn’t understand the dialect in which the illegal immigrants were speaking as the dialect didn’t match with the Bengali spoken in West Bengal for which they had said it.”

Incidentally, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to hold a virtual meeting with party MPs of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

According to TMC sources, the TMC Supremo might discuss future plans over SIR and harassment of Bengalis to counter the saffron camp.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will also hold a meeting with Bengal BJP MPs.
