Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the devastating Pahalgam terror attack, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee has issued calls for stringent action against the neighbouring country.

In a sharply-worded statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, April 27, Banerjee criticised both the Union government and sections of the mainstream media, urging the Centre to move beyond symbolic responses and instead focus on reclaiming Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Abhishek Banerjee Calls for Decisive Action

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Banerjee wrote, "Over the past few days, I have been closely following the conduct of the mainstream media and those at the helm of Union Govt. Instead of deeply investigating the lapses that led to this unprecedented terror attack in PAHALGAM, they seem more focused on pushing a narrative that benefits a particular political party. It’s time we rise above such petty politics and confront this issue decisively, once and for all. This is not the moment for more surgical strikes or symbolic threats to Pakistan. It’s time to TEACH THEM A LESSON in the language they understand. It’s time to RECLAIM Pakistan Occupied KASHMIR (PoK). Period."

Banerjee’s remarks come at a time when political rhetoric around cross-border terrorism has sharply intensified.

Pahalgam Attack Fallout

The terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, has triggered a wave of anger and calls for action across India. In response, the Indian government has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan, a move considered a significant escalation in bilateral tensions. Additionally, all visas issued to Pakistani nationals have been revoked, and diplomatic engagements have been reduced to a minimum.

Pakistan, meanwhile, has denied involvement in the attack, but Indian authorities maintain that evidence points towards cross-border terror groups operating with Islamabad’s support.
