Patna: Amid the controversy over the personal life of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav's elder son Tej Pratap Yadav, RJD MP Sudhakar Singh on Monday created a flutter in political circles by claiming that marrying 2-3 times was not a crime in Hindu religion.

RJD MP, son of state RJD chief Jagdanand Singh, while revealing his 12-year relationship with a woman on Facebook, said that it was completely a personal matter. Later, Tej Pratap claimed that his social media platform was hacked, and my photographs were edited wrongfully, adding that there was a "conspiracy to defame and harass" him and his family.

“Getting married is not a crime. We follow the ideas of Ram Manohar Lohia, who had envisioned ‘Sapt Kranti’ (seven revolutions) clearly states that all types of relationships between every man and woman are considered valid, unless rape or cheating is involved in it. If Tej Pratap has got married, which he will announce himself, there is no immorality in it,” he claimed.

“Two to three marriages were taking place in the Hindu society even earlier. We have heard that many people have married three or four times. This tradition even exists now. Just look at Chirag Paswan, he is also born to a second mother. Such situations have been common in society,” he remarked.

RJD MP also requested Lalu to accept Tej Pratap’s decision as a father as marrying for the second time did not fall under the category of crime in any way.

Reacting to the RJD MP`s comments, JD (U) national spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad said, "The way Sudhakar Singh came out in defence of Tej Pratap, and made a comment that polygamy is legal in Hinduism, he has disrespected everyone, it is like disrespecting the law. When people are in public life, people see them as a role model. His statement is condemnable.”

Meanwhile, Tej Pratap`s younger brother and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav in his interaction with mediapersons said, “RJD national president (Lalu) has already taken a decision on the matter in the interest of Bihar and party. Lalu ji is the most experienced person and nobody can take a better decision than him. I will not make any comment on the personal life of somebody. There should not be any discussion on it."
