A controversy has erupted after it emerged that not one but three individuals with criminal histories met Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Kanpur on May 30. The three men are BJP functionaries with multiple police cases, including charges of assault and murder.
While police claim they were not asked to verify the visitor list, the ADM insists a written request for verification was sent. “We acted per protocol,” ADM Rajesh Kumar said, citing the BJP-submitted list.
The incident has sparked criticism from opposition parties. Samajwadi Party and Congress questioned how individuals with serious charges could be allowed near the PM. The Congress released details showing 27 cases against Thakur, including NSA charges.

Thakur dismissed the allegations as politically motivated, claiming he had been acquitted in major cases. Meanwhile, BJP maintains the names were from before the current leadership assumed office.
The security oversight has triggered internal probes.
