Banerjee had recently accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP of trying to exploit Operation Sindoor - the Centre's military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack - for political gains.

Kolkata: After Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday had blown the poll bugle for West Bengal’s Assembly election scheduled in 2026.

Addressing party workers at Netaji Indoor Stadium, Shah said that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will form the state government in 2026.

“If free and fair election is held in the state then people of the state will oust Trinamool Congress (TMC) and even Mamata Banerjee’s election deposit will be forfeited. People are aware about the corruption and scams of this state government. Didi, your time is over,” said Shah.

Taking further potshots at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the Union Home Minister claimed that Mamata didn’t support ‘Operation Sindoor’ and ‘WAQF Amendment Bill’ for ‘vote bank politics’.

“Ministry of Home Affairs asked for lands to strengthen the border from the Bengal government but the TMC government didn’t give as it wants infiltration to continue so that TMC can remain in power. Infiltrators are entering from Bangladesh. When terrorists killed Hindu tourists including people from Bengal, Mamata didi didn’t cry but when PM Modi conducted ‘Operation Sindoor’ she slammed him for just politics. The women will give befitting reply to Mamata didi for insulting sindoor,” further mentioned Shah also adding that BJP is ahead in at least 97 Assembly seats in keeping with the vote margin of 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Shah also called the recent violence in Murshidabad as ‘state sponsored violence’.

“MHA has always mentioned BSF deployment in Murshidabad but the state government didn't allow it as they wanted the violence to continue. When Suvendu Adhikari stands to unite Hindu votes, Mamata didi gets afraid. Women are not safe in Bengal. It is proven from Sandeshkhali incident to RG Kar rape and murder incident. PM Modi gives money to the state but it doesn’t reach the poor people of Bengal,” stated the Union Home Minister.

Notably, before addressing the party workers, Shah had inaugurated a new building of CFSL at Rajarhat and after the programme at Netaji Indoor Stadium Shah also visited the ancestral house of Swami Vivekananda and met several monks.

Meanwhile, TMC minister Chandrima Bhattacharya demanded the resignation of Shah from his post and alleged that he failed to tighten border security.

“Border security is with MHA and he failed to provide security. He went to Swami Vivekananda’s house but failed to keep to Vivekananda’s teachings. He is saying that the central government sends money but we still don’t get money for the MGNREGA scheme. Next year once again TMC will come back to power with at least 250 seats and Mamata Banerjee will again become the Chief Minister. BJP disrespects women the most,” mentioned Chandrima.
