Kanpur: In an act of protest that caught the internet's attention, a father from Kanpur’s Barra 8 area staged an emotional demonstration after his young daughter fell into a water-filled pothole on her way to school.

The incident took place near the Ram Gopal Chowk, highlighting the deteriorating condition of roads in the area, especially during rains.

'Despite Repeated Complaints, No One Repaired Roads,' Says Father

Shaken by the incident where his daughter slipped and got soaked while walking on the broken, waterlogged road, the father decided to take an unusual but striking step. He returned to the very spot with a mat and pillow and lay down in the middle of the muddy water to draw attention to the civic apathy.

As per a report by News18, people passing by stopped in shock, traffic slowed, and onlookers gathered to witness the unusual protest, a father lying in dirty water, voicing his child’s pain. “This is not a political act, it is a compulsion,” he said. “We cannot watch our children fall and people get injured every day. Despite many complaints, nobody is repairing the roads."

He was also seen chanting "Bharat mata ki jai".

Locals Join the Protest

Residents say they have repeatedly appealed to councillors, MLAs, MPs, and municipal authorities to fix the stretch from Ram Gopal Chowk to Anand South City, but no action has been taken. “This road is full of potholes. During rains, it’s impossible to tell where the road ends and the pothole begins,” a local said, as quoted by News18.

The route is a lifeline connecting Barra and Gujaini, used daily by thousands, yet its condition remains unchanged. Locals recalled that even last year, an elderly man was injured after falling into a similar pothole.
