A bus carrying pilgrims plunged into a deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district on Sunday after suspected terrorists opened fire, officials said. There was no immediate information on casualties.
The bus, carrying pilgrims on their way to the Shiv Khori temple, came under attack in Teryath village in Poni area, the officials said citing initial reports.
"A very unfortunate incident has happened. Initial reports suggest that terrorists fired upon the bus, which had left from Shivpuri towards Katra. The driver lost the balance and the bus fell into gorge. Rescue operation has been completed. Nine are feared dead and 33 are injured, who have been taken Narayana Hospital and District Hospital," said Reasi SSP Mohita Sharma.
A rescue operation was launched and reinforcements from police, army and paramilitary forces rushed to the spot, they said.
