Chandigarh: Leaders of several Khaps of Haryana on Thursday extended support to the protesting farmers and called a Khap Mahapanchayat on December 29 in Hisar to announce their next course of action to press for various demands of the farmers.

The Khap leaders who held a meeting here on Thursday including Sarvjatiya Kandela Khap leader Om Prakash and Satrol Khap leader, Satish, told newspersons said that they were giving the government 10 days’ time to accept all the demands of the farmers failing which the Haryana’s Khaps would also announce their next step.

They held that though the Khaps had also staged ``dharnas’’ in support of farmers' stir since February, the same had stalled due to the state assembly polls in Haryana. They, however, held that the same would now be renewed if farmers' demands were not met.

Stating that all the Khaps as well as various farmer unions and social organisations have also been invited at the Khap Mahapanchayat which would be held in Bas village of Hisar district, the Khap leaders said they were also concerned about farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s health – whose fast-unto-death entered the 24th day on Thursday - and had also gone to Khanauri border to inquire about the same.

The Khap leaders also urged all the farmer unions to join hands to further strengthen the ongoing farmers' stir to press the Centre to accept their demands.

DALLEWAL FAINTS, REGAINS CONSCIOUSNESS AFTER 10 MINUTES

Meanwhile, according to reports, Dallewal, 70, who is a cancer patient and whose health had been worsening, fainted after vomiting and regained consciousness after about 10 minutes on Thursday. A team of doctors from Rajindra Medical College and Hospital, Patiala is currently treating him.

FARMER’S BODY BROUGHT TO SHAMBHU BORDER

Meanwhile, the body of Ranjodh Singh, a farmer who allegedly died by suicide after he consumed pesticide at Shambhu border a few days ago, was brought to the Shambhu border where the farmers and leaders including Sarwan Singh Pandher paid tributes to the deceased.

It may be recalled that a multitude of the farmers have been protesting to press the Centre for their various demands including minimum support price (MSP) and debt waiver and camping at the heavily barricaded Shambhu and Khanauri borders of Punjab and Haryana for the past about 10 months.

Under their protest ``Delhi chalo’’ march 2.0 – the first being in the 2020-2021 – their attempts to move towards Delhi were thwarted on December 6, 8, and 14 by Haryana police by lobbing teargas shells, leading to injuries to many of them.
