Guwahati: Former legislator Kapchen Rajkumar, 65, was killed in a tragic elephant attack early Wednesday morning while walking from his native Namsang village to Deomali in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district, sources said.
The incident has shocked the region, where Rajkumar was widely respected for his public service and leadership. He is survived by his wife and several children.
Born on April 15, 1960, in Namsang, Rajkumar was the son of Wangmei Rajkumar, a former acting village chief. He served as the MLA of the then Khonsa North Assembly Constituency from 1985 to 1990 and remained an influential figure in local politics.
Rajkumar began his early education at Ramakrishna Mission School, Narottamnagar, Deomali, before completing his studies at Khonsa Government Higher Secondary School. He also pursued a commercial pilot training course at Safdarjung Airport in New Delhi.
Known for his humility and dedication, Rajkumar was admired for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of his people.
His last rites will be performed on Thursday at Namsang, his native village.
