Dehradun: The city has been experiencing heavy rainfall in the numerous regions of Uttarakhand as the weather has changed from the mountains to the plains. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert.

The IMD said that heavy rainfall is predicted in various regions of Uttarakhand, and it will be accompanied by gusty winds, thunderstorms, and lightning. The wind is expected to blow at a speed of 40 to 50 km per hour. Tourists and residents are advised to be cautious while visiting the Chardham Yatra.

What is the reason for rainfall in the state?

Uttarakhand is experiencing heavy rainfall due to a combination of factors, including a depression in central India, a monsoon trough, and a recent western disturbance. According to the weather department, these systems bring moisture and uplift, leading to widespread rain, including hailstorms in some areas. Climate change is another factor which is contributing to the intensity and frequency of these events.

A depression has formed

A depression formed in central India and is moving towards the northeast, leading to heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand and its surrounding areas. This depression is influenced by the monsoon trough, which is positioned near the foothills and further intensifies the intensity of rainfall.

Rainfall is likely to occur in these regions

The State Disaster Management Authority has issued a letter to all the District Magistrates asking them to remain alert in view of the bad weather. According to the Meteorological Department, on Monday, May 5, heavy to very heavy spells of rain are likely to be accompanied by thunder, hailstorms, and gusty winds at some places in Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Tehri, Pauri, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Almora, Champawat and Nainital.
