Russian President Vladimir Putin called Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday and strongly condemned the Pahalgam terrorist attack that claimed 26 lives.

Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal in a social media post informed about the conversation between two nation heads and said, "He (Vladimir Putin) conveyed deepest condolences on the loss of innocent lives and expressed full support to India in the fight against terrorism. He emphasised that the perpetrators of the heinous attack and their supporters must be brought to justice."

"Both leaders reiterated their commitment to further deepen Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership," MEA spokesperson said.

PM Modi conveyed greetings to President Putin on the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory Day and invited him for the Annual Summit to be held in India later in the year.

The phone call between President Putin and Prime Minister Modi comes at a time when India is preparing to take action against Pakistan-sponsored terrorists. Earlier, it was reported that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh would skip the 80th anniversary celebrations of Victory Day in Moscow on May 9. According to reports, Russian President Vladimir Putin had invited both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping to attend the Victory Day celebrations. However, later, Russian media reported that instead of PM Modi, Rajnath Singh would participate in the Victory Day parade.
