New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday, May 21 arrested a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel from Delhi for allegedly spying for Pakistan. The arrested CRPF personnel has been identified as Moti Ram Jat. He allegedly shared sensitive information with Pakistan's intelligence officers.
The NIA in a statement said that Jat was sharing the information with Pakistani intelligence officers on national security since 2023.
"The accused, Moti Ram Jat, was actively involved in espionage activity and had been sharing classified information related to national security with Pakistan Intelligence Officers (PIOs) since 2023,” the NIA said in a statement.
The federal agency further stated that the accused was receiving funds from the Pakistan intelligence officers through various conduits. The CRPF official was remanded to NIA's custody till June 6 by the Special Court at Patiala House Courts.
Jat was dismissed from the service with effect from May 21.
Jat came under the scanner in the course of close monitoring of his social media activity by the CRPF, in coordination with the central agencies, during which he was found to have "acted in violation of established norms and protocols," according to a statement issued by the CRPF.
"Concurrently, the individual has been dismissed from service with effect from 21.05.2025, under the relevant provisions of the Constitution of India read with the CRPF Rules," the CRPF statement said.
In May, authorities arrested at least 12 people, including YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, for allegedly spying for Pakistan.
Jyoti Malhotra's Arrest:
On May 17, Malhotra was arrested over charges of spying for Pakistan. Initial investigation revealed the Haryana-based YouTuber was reportedly honey-trapped by a Pakistani High Commission employee, identified as Ehsan-ur-Rahim, alias Danish. Danish is believed to have connections with Pakistan's Inter- Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The Investigation revealed that Jyoti had visited Pakistan multiple times and China once. In 2023, Jyoti travelled to Pakistan twice, facilitated by Ali Ehwan, who arranged her stay. She also visited Bali, Indonesia, with one of the PIOs.
