Sona Mohapatra REACTS To Backlash For Criticising Kaanta Laga Makers: 'Are We Okay With Legends Fading While Paid PR Milks Someone's Death?'

Sona Mohapatra criticised directors Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru for using Shefali Jariwala's death to gain publicity, slamming their tribute of 'retiring Kaanta Laga.' She also questioned why original legends like R.D. Burman and Lata Mangeshkar are being sidelined. Her earlier 'RIP to the 42-year-old lady' remark drew backlash for being insensitive, which she later defended.

Singer Sona Mohapatra recently criticised directors Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, who directed the music video of the late actress Shefali Jariwala's iconic track Kaanta Laga, for paying a tribute by announcing they were 'retiring Kaanta Laga' forever, stating they would never create a sequel as they wanted Shefali to remain the only Kaanta Laga girl. Sona slammed them, calling out those who label themselves 'makers' and use someone's death for PR.

Sona Slams Trolls, Defends Musical Legends

In her earlier post, Sona also wrote, "RIP and all to the 42-year-old lady," a remark that irked netizens who found it 'insensitive' in the context of Shefali's demise. On Saturday, the singer responded to the backlash by questioning how legends like R.D. Burman, Lata Mangeshkar, and Majrooh Sultanpuri, the original creators of Kaanta Laga... Bangle Ke Peechhe from Samadhi (1972), are now being disconnected from their own work, while Radhika and Vinay, who only made the remix, are taking undue credit.

She wrote, "To all those trolling me about being insensitive, are we okay with RD Burman, Lata Mangeshkar, Majrooh Sultanpuri legends of our musical heritage fading & getting disconnected from their own creations? We are OK with Paid PR to milk someone's death? Calling yourself the 'makers' of Kaanta Laga is okay when you just the makers of a remix video?"

What Sona Mohapatra Said

After Radhika and Vinay’s retirement post on Friday evening, Sona remarked that they had merely created a "smutty" video featuring a remix with a 19-year-old Shefali. "Of course, no permission from legends required for their XX interpretation," she wrote on her Instagram story.

About Shefali Jariwala's Death
