Six years have passed since filmmaker Karan Johar began his journey as a parent, marked by the birth of his twins, Yash and Roohi, on February 7, 2017. As a single parent who welcomed his twins through surrogacy, Karan treasures the time spent with his children. However, he recently shared the difficulties he has encountered on this journey. During a press conference today, he delved into the challenges of parenthood and expressed gratitude for the support provided by actors and his closest friends in the industry Kajol, Rani Mukerji and Kareena Kapoor Khan.
Speaking at a press conference this evening following the conclusion of the Koffee with Karan Season 8 shoot, he remarked, “With time, you realize that relationships go through ups and downs. I would never want to go back to the time when we weren’t speaking (addressing his past feuds with Kajol and Kareena). I am glad that today I am strong as a friend. I never thought Kareena and I would have children roughly around the same time.”
Addressing his apprehensions about feeling like an older parent, Karan adds, “When I had kids, I was 44 years old. I always thought I would be the oldest person in a PTM, a WhatsApp group, or my children's birthday party. But it is so far from the truth. Kareena had Taimur just two months prior to Yash and Roohi’s birth. Rani had Adira a year before Yash and Roohi were born. These two are my closest friends in the industry. We had kids around the same age.”
Speaking about how Kajol is around his kids, Karan beams. “Kajol is also close to my kids. Sometimes, she behaves like one of them. I am glad that I have a support system comprising of these (three) friends. When you are a single parent, you have to know one thing. Barring the fact that I am eternally grateful to my mother for her constant support, I must say I am grateful to my friends. They are all there with me whenever I need them. Despite having differences in the past, I am glad that we all are together now and are stronger than before.”
While Season 8 saw Kajol and Rani grace the couch together, Kareena accompanied her sister-in-law Alia Bhatt.
