Bollywood actress Kajol has sparked controversy online after refusing to interact with reporters in Hindi during the Maharashtra State Film Awards 2025, held in Mumbai on Tuesday (August 5).
The actress, who attended the event with her mother and veteran actress Tanuja, was seen responding to media questions primarily in Marathi and English. However, when a reporter requested her to repeat her statement in Hindi, Kajol appeared visibly irked and snapped, saying, "Abhi main Hindi mein bolu? Jisko samajhna hai woh samajh lenge."
A video capturing the moment has gone viral on social media, with many netizens expressing their disappointment and calling out the actress for her reaction.

Reacting to the video, a social media user commented, "Hindi se actress bani varna pata nahi kaha hoti.....ab marathi bolkar neta ban rahi hai. Disgraceful."
"If she feels uncomfortable and ashamed to speak in the Hindi language then she should stop working in Bollywood Hindi Movies. She should drop her double standards," another wrote.
"Why they forget that it's Indian cinema and Hindi films that gave her startdom and also why to become bias for one language . She should have done non hindi films , jinko samjhana aur dekhna hota film wo dekh lete," wrote another user.
Another comment under a video shared by ANI read, "Why she is working in Hindi films, she should work in Marathi films only, if they don't respect and hate Hindi why do and translate ur movie in Hindi."
Kajol has not reacted to the controversy yet. Several videos of Kajol's reaction have gone viral, however, it is not known if she said something more about the language before or after giving bytes.
The actress he was honoured at the event with the prestigious Raj Kapoor Award for her contribution to Indian cinema. Reportedly, she also delivered her award acceptance speech in Marathi. Veteran actor Anupam Kher was among the other celebrities present at the ceremony.
On Tuesday, she also shared a video on her Instagram account to give a glimpse of the event. Along with the clip, she wrote, "Walking the same stage my mother once did, and on my birthday, no less .... feels like the universe reminding me where I come from… and who I carry with me always."
Meanwhile, on the work front, Kajol was last seen in Sarzameen with Prithviraj Sukumaran and Ibrahim Ali Khan. The film released on an OTT platform.
