The trailer of superstar Rajinikanth's much-awaited film Coolie has set social media abuzz, not only with its high-octane visuals and star power but also with intriguing fan theories about its storyline. Since its release, several netizens have speculated that the film might explore science fiction themes, particularly time travel.
The trailer, while stylish and packed with mass appeal, offers little insight into the actual plot. This ambiguity has fueled online debates, with fans trying to decode subtle clues that might point toward futuristic or sci-fi elements.
At a recent pre-release event for the film, director Lokesh Kanagaraj addressed the growing curiosity and wild theories floating on social media.
When asked whether Coolie is indeed a sci-fi or time travel film, Lokesh said, "I used to read all those things but it actually surprises me as well. Just now I was discussing it with Sathyaraj sir that everybody says it's a sci-fi film and it's a time-travel film… I am so excited to see people, who are going to be surprised when they actually see what the film is all about."
The filmmaker's cryptic response has only intensified the mystery, as he neither confirmed nor denied the fan theories, adding fuel to the speculation.
While the trailer does introduce the ensemble cast and offers glimpses of action-packed sequences and Rajinikanth's signature screen presence, it carefully avoids revealing any major plot details. Coolie is one of the most talked-about films in recent times.
Billed as a stylish, massy action entertainer, Coolie marks another collaboration between superstar Rajinikanth and one of Tamil cinema's most celebrated modern directors.
The film also stars Aamir Khan, Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, Upendra and Nagarjuna. Coolie is all set to hit the big screens on August 14. It will clash with Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani's highly-anticipated War 2 at the box office.
