Superstar Rajinikanth returned to theatres after 10 months with Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie, and while it generated massive buzz, the actual film seemingly failed to live up to the hype. As Coolie released and fans thronged theatres to watch it early in the morning, they exited the cinema halls in a rather underwhelmed mood, and according to the public verdict on social media, the film is an "average watch".
Coolie also stars Nagarjuna, Aamir Khan, Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj and Upendra in key roles. Most of those who watched the film had similar opinions -- that the story was flat and the screenplay was slow. While audience praised the actors, it was the script which disappointed the excited fans.
"Coolie full review It's just avg movie over all. Anirudh is good as always.. Rajinikanth swag is also good as always . Nagarjuna is too good and stylish in the role ... cameos are decent ... Now the main drawback is slow paced movie...It's not worth the hype (sic)," a user wrote on X.
Another viewer wrote, "Story was weak and felt flat. Once again proved that the writer is the king. The middle part of the story went in a completely different direction. Rajinikanth was charismatic as always. Anirudh alone did his duty. You really disappointed me a lot, man @Dir_Lokesh (sic)."
"It's a soubin shahir show...Anirudh's bgm saved some repetitive violent scenes... Too much violence infact...#Rajnikanth sir had his lovely moments but among his worst entry scenes ever (sic)," a disgruntled fan wrote.
Despite the poor reviews, Coolie is all set to shatter records at the box office on its first day, and it is reportedly eyeing a Rs 100 crore opening. The film minted nearly Rs 30 crore in India and Rs 40 crore overseas even before its release through advanced bookings.

Coolie clashed with War 2 at the box office, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR in lead roles. If the early reviews are to go by, War 2 seems to be a better film than Coolie.
