Actor Shreyas Talpade found himself in a soup after reports on Thursday claimed that he was involved in a multi-crore chit fund scam in Uttar Pradesh. But on Friday, his team issued an official statement and quashed the reports, stating that he had nothing to do with the said fraud.
Stating that there was no truth to the malicious claims, his team said, "It is deeply unfortunate that in today's world, a person's hard-earned reputation appears to be vulnerable to undue tarnishment by unfounded rumours. Recent reports alleging Mr. Shreyas Talpade's involvement in fraud or misconduct are completely false, baseless and devoid of any merit whatsoever."
The statement further read, "As a public figure, Mr Talpade, like many other celebrities, is frequently invited to various corporate and annual events, which he attends as and when possible. Needless to say, Mr Talpade has no nexus whatsoever with any fraudulent or unlawful acts as are being alleged and/or circulated."
Highlighting the Om Shanti Om actor's honesty, the statement concluded saying, "We urge everyone to verify facts before spreading misinformation and request that Mr. Talpade's name be kept away from these baseless rumours. Mr Talpade is a law abiding citizen who remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, honesty and professionalism in all of his endeavours."
On Thursday, reports stated that the actor was involved in a scam in UP's Mahoba district, in which the accused lured innocent villagers into investing their money into the chit fund, promising them exorbitant returns in a short span. However, when people got a whiff of the scam, the accused shut shop and fled the scene.
On the film front, Shreyas will be next seen in the comedy of errors, Welcome To The Jungle. The film also stars Akshay Kumar, Tushar Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Paresh Rawal, Arshad Warsi, Bobby Deol, Raveena Tandon, Suniel Shetty, Mika Singh, Disha Patani, Jacqueline Fernandez, and others.
