Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna hit the theatres on February 14, 2025, and has been doing wonders at the box office on its opening day. Directed by Laxman Utekar, it is based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and is an adaptation of the Marathi novel Chhava by Shivaji Sawant.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned an impressive Rs 31 crore in India on day one, marking Kaushal's biggest opening in his career. The report further stated that Chhaava had an overall 68.93 per cent Hindi occupancy on Friday, with Pune leading at 79.75 per cent, followed by Mumbai at 62.50 per cent and Hyderabad at 56.75 per cent.
Vicky's last film Bad Newz earned around Rs 8.50 crore India net on its first day, surpassing Sam Bahadur, which earned Rs 6.25 crore. It also outperformed Kaushal's Uri: The Surgical Strike, which had minted an impressive Rs 8.20 crore on day one.
Chhaava also outperformed Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahariya’s Sky Force, which had held the record for 2025’s highest first-day grosser with Rs 12 crore.
Apart from Vicky and Rashmika, the film features an ensemble cast of Akshaye Khanna, Ashutosh Rana, Diana Penty, Vineet Kumar Singh, Divya Dutta, and Pradeep Rawat.
On Friday, Vicky's wife, actress Katrina Kaif reviewed Chhaava and expressed her desire to rewatch it. Sharing the film's poster, she wrote, "What a cinematic experience and what a monumentus task to bring to life the glory of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, @laxman.utekar tells this incredible story in the most brilliant way, im in awe, the last 40 min of the film will leave you speechless. I’ve spent all morning wanting to go and rewatch it again."
